Why PADI Underwater Navigator?

When you're underwater, knowing where you are and where you're going comes in handy, especially if you're looking for that beautiful reef that you've heard all about. The PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course will help you become a pro at finding your way underwater.

During your PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty course, you'll learn underwater navigation dive procedures, techniques, planning, organisation and potential problems. You'll also be introduced to natural navigation, underwater patterns, distance estimation and further your compass navigation skills. You'll put these into practice during your three open water dives.

Your Adventures In Diving Navigation Adventure Dive may count toward your Specialty course at instructor discretion. This Specialty also counts toward your Master Scuba Diver certification.

Underwater Navigator Training Dives

Dive 1 – Distance estimation, natural navigation of a straight line, navigation of a straight line and reciprocal using a compass and navigate a square pattern using a compass.  

Dive 2 – A multiple leg compass course with 5 or more heading changes and fixing a specific underwater location to be relocated on a future dive.  

Dive 3 – Underwater compass course. A treasure hunt underwater!, you will follow bearings given at each stage of the course, noting time at the end.  You will relocate dive site from dive two using landmarks and/or compass bearings that you took.
