Hollis Gear
has been a long-time vision of Bob Hollis, diving pioneer and
CEO of Oceanic. The new line-up, which took three years to
develop, begins with four new first stages with corresponding
second stages, which are similar to the Oceanic range of
regulators. There is the addition of the 410, an Auto-Air-style
valve combining a regulator and the BC power inflator mechanism.
There are no less than seven different styles of wings and two
backplates, plus four choices of harness together with two
wing-style BCs.
Of particular interest to cave- and deep-wreck divers will be
the H-160 diver propulsion vehicle, which has a nine-point
adjustable propeller pitch, redundant electronic and mechanical
clutch and three power settings. It is depth-rated to 200m,
making it the deepest-operating scooter on the market, says the
manufacturer.
However, probably the most talked-about piece of kit is the new
Prism 2 CCR and head-down display (HDD) monitoring system. With
an over-the-shoulder counterlung design, its radial scrubber is
said to provide a low-resistive breathing effort for up to five
hours. For resilience, there are three oxygen sensors and an
independent analogue secondary display.
The M1 Onyx is a new frameless mask, and the M2 features a
Saint-Gobain ultra-clear glass lens that provides wider vision.
The Prism rebreather will be launched in UK and Europe in late
2009.
